The EU project NBRACER marks an important step towards a more sustainable Europe.

By Agner Clausen

An ambitious EU project (NBRACER), spanning the next four years, is set to establish the Central Denmark Region as a European frontrunner in the implementation of nature-based solutions. Klimatorium, located in Lemvig, is NBRACER’s project partner in Denmark.

The goal is to promote the broad application of nature-based solutions in the region, contributing to solving challenges such as climate change, biodiversity crisis and resource scarcity. The project aims to catalyze innovative approaches and demonstrate the impact of nature-based solutions in different contexts, from urban planning to agricultural operations.

NBRACER’s vision includes:

  • Development of a network of pilot projects: These projects will serve as practical examples of how nature-based solutions can be implemented in different landscapes and urban environments.
  • Establishment of a knowledge bank: The project will collect and disseminate knowledge about nature-based solutions, accessible to decision-makers, professionals and citizens.
  • Strengthening capacity and collaboration: NBRACER will offer training programs and workshops to promote competencies in nature-based solutions and strengthen collaboration between different actors.

NBRACER’s objectives:

  • Promoting biodiversity and ecosystem services: Nature-based solutions can help restore biodiversity, improve water quality, and strengthen natural processes that are essential for human well-being.
  • Climate resilience: By absorbing CO2 and adapting to extreme weather, nature-based solutions can play an important role in the fight against climate change.
  • Strengthened economy: Implementing nature-based solutions can create green jobs, promote sustainable tourism and increase property values. The project will demonstrate that nature-based solutions can be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional grey infrastructure such as pipes, wells and pumping stations.
