February 27 – Brussels

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region was invited to this event to present the NBRACER project and also to showcase water management within the Region through the Wetlands call for projects.

The NBRACER and CARDIMED projects, funded by the HORIZON program, were presented. For the former, the two demonstrators in Nouvelle-Aquitaine were presented. These projects aim, on the one hand, to re-meander a section of a watercourse to enable hydrological restoration of the system, which also prevents flooding. On the other hand, the second project is experimental and aims to support the low water level of the Garonne River through groundwater infiltration.

For CARDIMED, the projects aim to improve water resilience at nine demonstration sites in the Mediterranean region. For example, the creation of green walls irrigated by gray water and the creation of micro forests in highly mineralized areas, among other projects.

For Nouvelle-Aquitaine, it was also an opportunity to present other initiatives, such as the Wetlands call for projects, which aims to restore these areas, which are of great importance in water management.

This day also provided an opportunity to discover other projects in Europe using Nature-based Solutions as a means of better adapting territories to climate change.

Furthermore, “fish bowl” activities allowed for the exchange of ideas and the sharing of experiences on indicators, the financing of these actions, and even comprehensive planning, allowing various stakeholders to participate in the projects.

Thanks to ICLEI and the Institute for European Environmental Policy for the invitation. We would love to participate again!
