Following the first regional workshop of the NBRACER project held in July 2024, the Porto Digital Association, one of the stakeholders involved in the Quinta de Salgueiros pilot, proposed to the municipality a challenge within the scope of the European CommuniCity project at the Quinta de Salgueiros.

This challenge, called Coolscape, answered the question “How to monitor and improve thermal behaviour and resilience?” and aimed to integrate sensor technology and citizen participation to support the co-design of the future urban park, focusing on improving thermal comfort and the inclusion of surrounding communities.

It was developed by BUILT CoLAB, in partnership with the Department of Environmental Planning and Management, Porto Digital Association, Domus Social and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. It was carried out from December 2024 to May 2025 and was another experiment integrated into Porto BioLab. Data from the 16 installed sensors regarding temperature and humidity models were collected and compared with the perceptions of the population that participated in the project. The sensors are still installed, and an online platform was generated that includes a dashboard of the information collected. This info will be used to monitor the implementation of the natural-based solutions.
