NBRACER research was presented at the Jornadas Españolas de Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos, held on 13–14 May in Huelva, Spain.

Isabel Gallego Bermúdez, consultant with the Research Group on Ecosystem-Based Coastal Protection at IHCantabria, presented the work “Coastal Protection and Co-benefits Provided by Nature-bsed Solutions in Estuaries of Cantabria”, co-authored with researchers María Maza and Inés Mazarrasa.

The presentation explored how NbS can support coastal adaptation and climate resilience in estuarine environments. In particular, the work focused on the restoration of tidal prism as a NbS that can contribute to coastal protection while also delivering important co-benefits, including carbon sequestration and biodiversity enhancement.

Developed as part of the ongoing NBRACER and NATURSHIFT projects, this research contributes to a growing body of knowledge on how natural processes can be restored and strengthened to help coastal areas respond to climate-related risks.
