Exploring the Area

The workshop began with a detailed examination of the region’s unique characteristics, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this vibrant rural area. The eastern countryside of Bruges, with its expansive landscapes, agricultural richness, and cultural heritage, served as a focal point for discussions on sustainable development.

Participants were given the opportunity to explore the region firsthand through an engaging bike tour of Maleveld, an area just outside of Bruges. This immersive experience allowed attendees to observe the local landscapes, communities, and natural resources, providing invaluable insights into the environmental dynamics that shape the area. This interactive approach underscored the importance of integrating community experiences into the planning process.

Addressing Climate Change Challenges

Participants examined the vulnerabilities of the region, focusing on issues such as increased rainfall, soil degradation, and biodiversity loss. Through a series of presentations and group activities, experts shared potential strategies for building resilience, including nature-based solutions, sustainable agriculture, and improved water management practices.
