The NBRACER Regional Workshop focused on knowledge transfer, capacity building, and strategic planning to promote the adoption of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS). This initiative addresses the challenges faced by coastal, rural, and urban landscapes, aiming to create a sustainable, long-term approach that enhances environmental resilience and supports regional development. By integrating NbS into land management practices and drawing from insights gained in Demonstrator regions, the workshop adapts proven best practices to the region’s unique environmental and socio-economic contexts.
The main goal is to identify key barriers and enablers for the implementation and scaling of NbS at the regional level while fostering dialogue among technical experts, practitioners, policymakers, and municipal representatives. Throught this workshop inputs and feedback from local stakeholders will be gather to ensure the strategy’s effectiveness and alignment with regional needs.
Replicating Regional Workshops: A Tailored Approach
As part of this initiative, several Replicating Regional Workshops were held, each tailored to the specific needs of different Replicating Regions. These one-day events brought together regional and municipal technicians, as well as practitioners actively involved in NbS implementation.
A common goal across all three workshops was to gather feedback on the Capacity Building Programme, assessing its content, priorities, and any missing elements that could enhance its effectiveness. Despite this shared purpose, each workshop maintained an independent thematic focus, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities within its respective region.
Key Highlights from the Workshops
Cávado Workshop (February 12th): This session provided an overview of local NbS implementation and engaged participants in drafting a regional vision for climate resilience.
East Flanders Workshop (February 24th): Focused on the technical aspects of NbS design and implementation, this workshop also explored potential solutions to regional challenges.
Friesland Workshop (February 26th): Participants identified barriers and enablers at the regional level, aiming to enhance the implementation and mainstreaming of NbS.
By tailoring each workshop to its region’s specific needs, the initiative ensures that NbS strategies are practical, actionable, and adaptable, paving the way for stronger environmental resilience and sustainable regional development.
