Stories that aren't tales

We believe that every landscape holds a story – and every person working with nature carries one too.

In NBRACER’s initiative, “Stories that Aren’t Tales – Nature Narratives,” we’re gathering the voices, memories, and stories that are worth telling. We’re gathering real voices from the bottom up: the challenges, the surprises, the quiet victories.

Because Nature-based Solutions are more than strategies. They are choices, challenges and customs woven into lives and places. They’re about relationships between people and land, tradition and innovation, hope and hard work.

They’re the wetlands brought back to life by local hands.

The forests where ancient knowledge meets modern care.
The gardens blooming between apartment blocks, tended by neighbours who’d never spoken to each other before.

We believe these stories matter. They carry lessons that no handbook can teach.
They connect us across regions, across cultures, across ways of knowing.  And now, we want to share them far and wide.

We’re not looking for perfect case studies.

We’re looking for truth. Texture. Perspective.

We’re inviting sister projects, partners, and nature stewards of all kinds to share the stories behind the solutions – in your own words, in your own way.

No story is too small.
No voice is too quiet.

Stories that show how communities experience, implement, question, or depend on nature-based solutions.
Stories that explore both the hope and the challenges, that balance science with tradition, and policy with personal paths.

These narratives help us listen more deeply. They ensure policies are firmly anchored in reality.
And they remind us that sustainable futures aren’t built from models alone – they’re grown from relationships.

So if your project holds a story of a place, of a people, of nature – we’d love to hear it.

Let’s co-create a living library of how Nature-based Solutions are unfolding across Europe, one story at a time.
