On 9 March 2026, NBRACER organised a demonstration event showcasing innovative water management techniques aimed at improving water infiltration and increasing water availability at parcel level.
The demonstration focused on two key measures: weirs (part of the NBRACER demo setup) and level-controlled drainage systems. Both approaches illustrate how water levels in agricultural fields can be managed more effectively to support both drought resilience and improved water retention.
Around 25 participants attended the event, including farmers, researchers, academics, and representatives from the provincial government. The group engaged actively throughout the afternoon, with many exchanges between practice, research, and policy perspectives.
The field setup allowed participants to directly observe how these systems function and discuss their practical application under real farming conditions. The discussions highlighted strong interest in tools that help farmers adapt to increasing water variability.
