On 13–14 May 2026, NBRACER-related research was presented at the XVIII Jornadas Españolas de Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos, held in Punta Umbría, Huelva, Spain.

The presentation, titled “Coastal Protection and Co-benefits Provided by Nature-Based Solutions in Estuaries of Cantabria”, was delivered by IHCantabria and co-authored by researchers Maria Maza and Ines Mazarrasa. The work forms part of two ongoing competitive projects focused on Nature-based Solutions: NBRACER and NATURSHIFT.

The presentation explored how Nature-based Solutions can support coastal adaptation and climate resilience in estuarine environments. In particular, it focused on the restoration of tidal prism as a Nature-based Solution with the potential to provide coastal protection while also delivering wider environmental co-benefits, including carbon sequestration and increased biodiversity.

By highlighting the role of estuarine ecosystems in reducing climate-related risks, this work contributes to NBRACER’s broader objective of advancing and scaling Nature-based Solutions across Atlantic regions. It also underlines the importance of connecting scientific research, coastal engineering and ecosystem-based approaches to support more resilient coastal territories.

Participation in the Jornadas offered an opportunity to share NBRACER-related insights with coastal and port engineering professionals, researchers and practitioners, helping to strengthen knowledge exchange around Nature-based Solutions for coastal resilience.
